The 11th annual Robert “Bo” Reid Memorial Baseball Tournament will take place the weekend of July 24-26 in Tiffin. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Bo Reid Memorial Fund, which was formed to benefit the Tiffin Park & Recreation Department and the Heidelberg “H” Association which supports student athletes at Heidelberg University. To date, $63,000 has been raised in support of both of these organizations.
This year, the weekend kicks off on Friday evening with a special appearance by actor Dwier Brown, who played the father in the film “Field of Dreams”. He will offer remarks beginning at 7 p.m. at The Ritz Theatre, followed by a special free viewing of the movie. He will also be signing copies of his book, “If You Build It…A Book About Fathers, Fate and Field of Dreams”. A review from Goodreads.com describes the book:
“If You Build It… is a funny and moving memoir about Fathers, Fate and Field of Dreams. Dwier Brown played Kevin Costner’s father for five minutes at the end of the movie Field of Dreams. Despite being an actor for 35 years and performing in hundreds of other films, plays and television shows, it was those five minutes that changed his life. Since the movie’s release in 1989, Brown has been recognized by dozens of fans who have told him poignant stories about their fathers and how watching the film changed their lives. Their touching stories helped Brown put into perspective his own father’s unexpected death just a month before he began filming Field of Dreams.”
The baseball tournament, which takes place on Saturday and Sunday at Hedges-Boyer Park is organized for an 8-under division, 10-under division and 12-under division with round-robin play and with a 3-game guarantee individual awards and an announcer at each field. The first eight teams in each age division will be accepted. Individual awards will be presented to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place teams. Entry fees are $275 for 10U and 12U teams and $150 for the 8U teams. Please make checks payable to The Robert “Bo” Reid Memorial Athletic Fund.
